Scientists Just Looked 900 Million Years Back In Time And Saw Something Colossal

For the first time, astronomers have detected black holes merging with neutron stars about 900 light years away. The merger of the black holes and neutron stars took place 900 years ago, and the gravitational waves from the event hit the Earth in January 2020.

In 2015, LIGO detected the first gravitational waves from the collision of two distant black holes. Since then, astrophysicists have observed dozens of #blackhole mergers and a couple of neutron star mergers. The merger of a black hole and a neutron star was predicted but it was never observed to date. Now, we have finally detected that too!
