The Hubble Space Telescope is probably the first telescope that most people would think of if you asked them to name just one. For the past 33 years, since its launch on April 24, 1990, Hubble has orbited the Earth with its sensors facing out into space. Long before Instagram existed, Hubble was recording its presence and making the results available to the public. In the process, the telescope has taken almost 1.5 million pictures. Insights into the cosmos have been greatly enhanced by the photos transmitted, which have been and will continue to be an invaluable source of scientific data. On top of that, they offer a visually stunning and profoundly moving window into the universe for every one of us.
