About 4.5 billion years from now, the Milky Way will collide with the Andromeda galaxy. This epic collision will lead to the formation of a new elliptical galaxy often nicknamed Milkomeda or Milkdromeda.
But this won’t be the first collision of our galaxy. Our galaxy is a monster that has crossed paths with and destroyed several galaxies in the past. But how do we know that it had a violent history? Where are those galaxies that once crossed paths with our galaxy? And most importantly, how did those collisions affect the evolution and the shape of the Milky Way?
