Electromagnets

In this video, we look at electromagnets. I explain how a current produces a magnetic field in a wire and then how to show the direction of the field. We then look at the magnetic field in a solenoid and what is meant by an electromagnet.

The Motor Effect

In this video, we explore how a wire conducting a current experiences a force in a magnetic field. We then look at how to calculate the size and direction of the force.

The Electric Motor

In this video, we look at how an electric motor works and the important role of the split-ring commutator.

The Generator Effect

In this video, we look at what is meant by an induced potential and the generator effect. We then explore the factors that affect the size of an induced potential difference/current. Finally, we explore how work is done in the generator effect.

The Alternator and Dynamo

In this video, we look at how an alternator produces an alternating current (AC) and how a dynamo produces a direct current (DC).

Red-Shift

In this video, we look at how planets, moons and artificial satellites follow circular orbits. We see how in a circular orbit, the velocity changes but the speed does not. We then explore how if the speed of an object changes, its orbital radius must decrease.

Orbital Motion

In this video, we look at how planets, moons and artificial satellites follow circular orbits. We see how in a circular orbit, the velocity changes but the speed does not. We then explore how if the speed of an object changes, its orbital radius must decrease.

The Solar System

In this video, we look at the solar system. First we look at the different planets. Then we explore how stars such as the Sun are formed and the forces acting inside a star.

Transformers

In this video, we look at how the generator effect is used to change the potential difference of an electricity supply using step-up and step-down transformers.

Magnetic Fields

In this video, we look at what is meant by a magnetic field and how to use a compass to plot magnetic field lines. We then explore why the Earth has a magnetic field.
